The current news and alumni updates from Lutheran South
October 2020
The New Jubel
Appeal Banner
The Jubel Center for Student Help received a makeover this summer thanks to the volunteer work of our highly dedicated and talented faculty and staff. Assistant Principal Brian Lind and Director of Admissions Katy Schmitt led the way in designing, dividing the room, painting, and decorating. Thank you to this dedicated pair and to all who helped!!
We're Calling it Homecoming 2.0
Since we were unable to host an alumni tailgate at a football game this year, we have decided to host homecoming during the basketball season instead. Alumni...mark your calendars for Saturday, February 6, and join us at the Sem Games at Lutheran South. More details to follow.
Nominate an Accomplished Lancer
It's time to nominate a Lancer! The Lutheran South Distinguished Alumni recognizes and honors outstanding achievements of alumni who have graduated at least 10 years ago and have achieved significant accomplishments after their high school career. Nominate a Lancer here.
We rely on the generosity of alumni, parents, grandparents, and friends to meet our financial goals. Thank you for considering Lutheran South in your charitable giving.

Lancer Updates
We're in Class Five Days a Week!
Lutheran South headed back to school in August with in-person learning, hybrid, or virtual options for all students. Our administrators and staff have been working diligently to provide a safe learning environment for our students, and it is paying off. We are still in school. Our sports teams are competing, and we even hosted a socially-distanced dance for Homecoming.

Our amazing teachers know the benefits of being with their students every day and are doing everything to make it possible. Principal Jonathan Butterfield shared on St. Louis Public Radio why he believes an in-person learning experience is so vital.
35 Years of Medical Excellence
Richard Schuessler, LS '69, Director of the Cardiac Surgical Research Laboratory, will retire from the Department of Surgery in October 2020, after an accomplished 35-year career at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
Welcome Back Mike Lorenz!
Mike Lorenz returned to his alma mater this year as the new art teacher. He spent the past 17 years as a teacher and football coach at Lutheran North, but now he's excited to once again be a Lancer. He and his wife, Renee, are both Class of 1998 grads. They have three children attending South, a freshman daughter and twin sons, who are juniors.
Catch the Latest Herald Edition
Did you miss the latest issue of the Herald? In addition to current Lancer highlights, articles include interviews with grad Kathy Odegard, LS '76,  who was recognized in the 40th Anniversary of Air Force's first graduating class with female cadets and a story detailing how Lutheran South taught during quarantine.
Our summer edition of The Herald is available online.
Sauce Magazine Names South Grad Top Chef
Lutheran South grad Rick Lewis, '02, was named Chef of the Year by Sauce Magazine. Lewis owns Grace Meat + Three, a southern fare eatery in the Grove. His restaurant also won the categories of Favorite Fried Chicken and Favorite Soul/Southern Food in the magazine's 2020 Readers' Choice edition. Congratulations Rick!
