Health Professions Program

Many Lutheran South students are interested in pursuing a medical career such as a doctor, physical therapist, dentist, nurse, physician's assistant, occupational therapist, speech therapist or pharmacist.

The Medical Careers Exploration Course is designed to create or stimulate interest in the many career opportunities available in the health field. Students practice skills and basic procedures that can be used as the foundation for most medical professions. Included in the instruction is learning to take vital signs, studying basic anatomy, and understanding more than 200 medical abbreviations. Students become First Aid and CPR certified.

The Medical Terminology course consists of an overview of information regarding the pronunciation, spelling, and definition of medical terms. Students learn medical abbreviations, conditions, diseases and their causes and treatments.
