The current news and alumni updates from Lutheran South
APRIL 2021
First Edition: Lancer Herald
Appeal Banner
Watch your mailboxes for the first edition of the Lancer Herald! Instead of printing a magazine that combines both Lutheran North and Lutheran South news, we have designed a publication that is school-specific. Inside the first-ever Lancer Herald, you will find articles about alumni who have excelled in their careers, highlights from your school that is thriving amidst a pandemic, and a feature about Linda Lockhart, the first black student to graduate from South 51 years ago. We hope you enjoy the stories. Please let us know if you have any story ideas or updates for the next issue that will be published this fall.

FINAL FOUR!
The boys varsity basketball team advanced to the Final Four for the first time since 1973!

The team competed in Springfield, MO, and finished the season taking fourth in state, making it a great tournament run.

We’re growing again! Lutheran South is seeking qualified educators to teach in a variety of academic areas, including English, Spanish, Mathematics, and Theology beginning in the 2021-2022 school year. Depending on the candidate’s skill set, these positions could be full or part-time in one academic area or a combination of multiple areas. Apply today. >> http://ow.ly/TDIc50E0uhX
Lutheran South transformed a classroom into a courtroom, complete with a judge's bench, witness stand, and jury box. The project, which was made possible by a gift from a generous donor, gives the 30-person Mock Trial team real-courtroom experience and an edge over the competition. As a result, the team made it to the quarterfinal round of the state meet this year. The team progressed further than ever before, and the competitors held their own against a seasoned team from Ladue.
Lutheran South introduced a sign language class this year as part of its elective courses. Teacher Phylan Peters-Bahkou and students, Morgan Pett and Lillian Borah, joined KFUO Radio to share their stories about teaching and learning sign language at South. Listen to their interviews here.
Join us for Lutheran South Night at the Ballpark when the Cardinals take on the Cubs on Sunday, May 23 at 6:08 p.m. Limited tickets are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Due to COVID protocols, tickets are issued in pods of four. You can purchase your tickets online here.

Tickets are $35 (face value $47) in the Left Field Pavilion. The first 10,000 fans will receive an embroidered Cardinals jersey similar to the one the team wears in Spring Training. Masks are required, and no bags or purses can be brought inside the stadium. Specific gates will be marked for entry.

Catch the annual South vs. North game on Saturday, May 1 at 3 p.m. in Busch Stadium. There is no charge to attend this game. Parking for the high school game is in Lot C off of 8th Street. Spectators will enter through Gate 2. You can watch the game live on Prepcasts.
For the fifth year in a row, the Lutheran South basketball teams partnered with Make-A-wish to provide $5,000 to help grant a wish. This year's wish for a side-by-side UTV came from a teenager, who was diagnosed with bone cancer. We hope that granting his wish was a bright spot during a difficult time. This special night of giving is one our Lutheran South community not only supports but looks forward to every year.
