40 Under 40 2019: Tom Dankenbring - LS '99

The St. Louis Business Journal named Tom Dankenbring, LS '99, to its "40 Under 40" list, recognizing his success in business and his involvement in the community. Dankenbring is a financial advisor with Northwestern Mutual and has been involved with several Lutheran organizations including Lutheran Association for Special Education and Lutheran Children & Family Services.

"Since graduating from Mizzou, I have been a financial advisor affiliated with Northwestern Mutual.  My team and I work with individuals, families and business owners to help identify their most important financial goals and dreams, and implement the best ideas to achieve their goals in the most efficient way possible.  Some of the biggest accomplishments in my career include become a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Round Table, known as the premier association of financial professionals.  I have also been a member of Northwest Mutual's "FORUM" group, which is comprised of the company's Top 2 percent, out of roughly 8,000 financial advisers."

How do you want to make your mark on St. Louis?
As a father of four children, and someone who was born and raised in St. Louis, I want to leave an incredible mark on our community.  I want to make a difference personally, professionally, philanthropically and spiritually in our community.  I want to enable ST. Louis to keep its small-town feel, all the while growing, and competing, with "bigger cities."  I want to leave St. Louis a better place for my children's generation and others that follow.

College?
B.S., University of Missouri - Columbia

Best part of your job?
I say this every day - I absolutely love "growing" with clients.  More often than not, our relationships start entirely as professional ones, and very quickly grown into personal ones.  I love being with clients through life's biggest moments - marriages, children, house purchases, career changes, and ultimately, helping to navigate them through retirement.

Who is your dream mentor?
I've been beyond blessed to have fantastic mentors in my own family members.  My parents and grandparents are as great as it gets.  Each of them has always been very involved with our family, their careers, our church, and numerous philanthropies.

First job?
I was a bagger at Schnucks in Des Peres, followed shortly thereafter by working as a butcher at LeGrand's Market in St. Louis Hill.

Volunteer or charitable efforts? The most recent ones that I've been involved with are Lutheran Family & Children's Services, as well as the Lutheran Association for Special Education.
